The Church of St. Nicholas" is the last church built in Samokov and was erected in the period 1859-1961. It was built in the courtyard of the cemetery, which was then located within the city limits. The foundation stone was laid in 1859, and 172 879 grosch, raised from the general church revenues of the town, were spent on its construction.
The courtyard of the church continued to serve as a cemetery until the 1890s, and in accordance with new sanitary regulations it was closed, but by explicit decisions of the city council, deserving citizens of Samokov were buried there, such as Dr. Anton Unterberg (1877), Zahari Hadjigiurov (1892), the mayors Dimitar Germanski (1897) and Hristo Zografski (1917), the donor of the schools Nikola Dramliev (1930) and others.
