The Local Initiative Group “Lyaskovets – Strazhitsa” covers the territories of the municipalities of Lyaskovets and Strazhitsa, which are located in the North Central Planning Region (NUTS 2), Veliko Tarnovo Region (NUTS 3) and occupy parts of the Pre-Balkan and the Danube hilly plain. The two municipal centres, the town of Lyaskovets and the town of Strazhitsa, are located in close proximity to the regional centre of Veliko Tarnovo.
The total area of the territory of the LAG ‘Lyaskovets – Strazhitsa’ is 685,7 km2, of which 177,4 km2 are in the municipality of Lyaskovets and the remaining 508,3 km2 in the municipality of Strazhitsa. The municipality of Lyaskovets is the ninth largest and the municipality of Strazhitsa the fifth largest among the 10 municipalities falling within the territory of Veliko Tarnovo Region.
The municipality of Strazhitsa borders the following municipalities:
– Antonovo Municipality;
– Popovo Municipality (Targovishte region);
– Byala Municipality (Ruse Region);
– Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality;
– Lyaskovets Municipality;
– Municipality of Zlataritsa;
– Polski Trambesh Municipality.
Lyaskovets Municipality borders with the following municipalities:
– Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality;
– Municipality of Strazhitsa;
– Municipality of Zlataritsa; Municipality of Lajska; Municipality of Lajska;
– Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo;
The territory of the Local Initiative Group “Lyaskovets – Strazhitsa” is continuous and homogeneous and fully coincides with the territories of the two municipalities, being limited by their administrative boundaries. On the territory of the LAG there are two towns – the municipal centres of Lyaskovets and Strazhitsa and a total of 26 villages, of which on the territory of Lyaskovets municipality – the village of Dzhulyunitsa, the village of Dobri Lari, the village of Dragizhevo, the village of Kozarevets and the village of Merdanya, and on the territory of Strazhitsa municipality – the village of Asenovo, the village of Balkantsi, village of Blagoevo, village of Bryagovitsa, village of Vinograd, village of Vladislav, village of Vodno, village of Gorski Senovets, village of Zhelezartsi, village of Kavlak, village of Kamen, village of Kesarevo, village of Lozen, village of Lyubentsi, village of Mirovo, village of Nikolaevo, village of Nova Varbovka, village of Novo Gradishte, village of Tsarski Izvor, village of Sush The settlements in the municipality of Lyaskovets are connected to each other by road communication links, which are well developed, and through the territory of the municipality passes the Sofia-Varna highway (I-4, E772) and the main road Ruse-Kardzhali (E85), as well as the railway line Sofia-Mezdra-Gorna Oryahovitsa-Varna with railway stations built on the territory of the municipality at the villages of Kozarevets and Dzhulyunitsa station.
A 20.6 km section of the Sofia-Gorna Oryahovitsa-Varna railway line runs through the municipality, from southwest to northeast, along the valley of the Golyama River. The municipality is partially or entirely crossed by 7 roads of the Republican road network of Bulgaria with a total length of 112.5 km. itsa and village of Temenuga.
