In the Troyan region the fabrics are made on a horizontal loom, and in the past there was a loom in every house, and the craft was passed from mother to daughter, from grandmother to granddaughter. The Troyan woman demonstrates her mastery especially in the making of the linen rugs – multi colour layered or "with clouds pattern" and the carpet rugs "with knives pattern". They have a specific symmetry and sense of rhythm, and their decorative effect and impact is obtained from the blending of colours - red, green, yellow, pink, blue and black and the technique of making. The Troyan pattern depicts stylized flowers, twigs, leaves, bouquets, and hence the names of the throws- "Carnations", "Vine Leaf", "Poppies".
