Feast of bacon and mulled rakia

The Balkan way of life is often reflected in the attractive local festivals and customs, and the event - Festival of the bacon and the mulled brandy, is under the auspices of the municipality of Apriltsi, with the support of the community centre "Svetlina - 1895". It takes place prior to Mesni Zagovezni, with the date being set each year by decision of the main organiser. Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy interesting local cuisine, traditional drinks and competitions: for the fattest bacon; for the most deliciously cooked bacon; for the original shashlik bacon on coals; for traditional local recipes for preserving bacon. A large number of prizes, raffles and merriment are also provided, and the biggest prize is a live pig animal. Guests can expect lots of singing, dancing, laughter, cheer, culinary and folklore surprises.
