147 years ago on July 16, 1877, the Danube city of Nikopol was liberated from five centuries of Turkish slavery. Nikopol was one of the first liberated cities of Bulgaria and the first and only fortress that the Danube Russian Army conquered with a fight during the entire military campaign.
Traditionally, as a sign of appreciation and reverence for the feat of the Russian liberators, on this day, citizens and guests of the city lay flowers at the Victory Monument, and the children from the summer school at the community centre "Napreduk 1871" present a short program.
