The findings on the territory of the fortress date back to the period of Late Antiquity and the Second Bulgarian Kingdom XII-XIV, and the fortification system of the former fortress consists of two parallel-concentric walls, equipped with rectangular towers, two gates for cars and one for pedestrians. The foundations of 17 separate dwellings and outbuildings, as well as the buildings of military garrisons, have been discovered at the northeastern part of the fortress.
On Kaleto Hill, a Christian necropolis with 145 graves from the time of Tsars Ivan Alexander and Ivan Shishman, as well as graves from the XVI-XVII century were also discovered. Also found were a Chalcolithic stone axe, a clay-plastered circular hearth from the Late Iron Age, as well as pieces of pottery and clay vertebrae for spindle.
