The idea of creating a museum in the village of Dekov was conceived in 1966 by the then librarian Yordan Kirilov Dimitrov, who had several exhibits in the library. He shared this idea with his friend and classmate Tsvetan Asparuhov Zanev, who was a student of architecture in Sofia. The future engineer welcomed this idea and the two went to the Municipal People's Council, where they presented their plans to the chairman of the council. He approved and supported their proposal, and it was also approved by the Executive Committee and work on the museum was set in motion. It was decided to build the museum on the site of the former library. Renovations began in 1976 and lasted a full year, along with the arrangement and collection of exhibits, and the museum opened in 1971.
