The Thracian, ancient and late antique fortress and Roman road station Dimum is located in the northern part of the town of Belene on the banks of the Danube. Originally there was a Thracian, fortified settlement here. The second period of construction in Dimum was the Stone-earth building period, from the reign of the Flavians until that of Emperor Hadrian. The late Roman wall was built with stone cemented with white mortar. Life in Dimum was very active in the 4th century. The abandonment of Dimum took place at the end of Late Antiquity.
