Natural Landmark “Skalnata tsarkva"

The rock church "St. Stephen" is located in the locality "Plavala" in the land of Nikopol. The natural landmark was declared in 1976 a historical site named "Skalnata tsarkva", with an area of 1 ha. The church is carved into the limestone rock, on its walls abound old inscriptions and drawings from the era of the origin of Christianity. In 2003 it was recategorised as a natural landmark and its name and area were preserved. The church was still in operation in the Х-XI centuries.

The natural landmark was declared in order to preserve a remarkable landscape, the result of harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
