The Maintained Reserve “Persinski blata” has been declared in order to preserve typical Danube marshes and typical marsh vegetation, together with the colonies of terns, gulls, cormorants, herons, wild ducks and geese that inhabit them. It includes the areas of “Pischensko blato”, “Martvoto blato” and “Staroto blato”. The maintained reserve is a wetland of international importance and is a real paradise for numerous colonies of marsh birds - terns, gulls, cormorants, herons and others, as well as the nesting mute swan and is a unique autumn gathering place of the black stork.
The reserve has a total area of 404.12 ha and was declared in 1981.
