The greatest wealth of Belene Municipality is the wildlife - over 200 species of birds nest in the area of the so-called Belene Archipelago, consisting of 19 islands, some of which fall within the territory of the Persina Nature Park, but the only one accessible to tourists is Persin Island.
It is the largest Bulgarian island on the Danube - 16 km long and 9 km wide, its eastern part is wild and marshy, overgrown with water-loving vegetation and constantly echoed by a melodious bird choir. The island has observation towers for birdwatchers and roads that pass close to the marshes.
