Protected zone “Velchevo” is designated under the Birds Directive, it falls within the territory of three municipalities, it was declared in 2008 and has two purposes of designation:
Conservation and maintenance of the habitats of the bird species mentioned in point 2 in order to achieve their favourable conservation status;
Restoration of habitats of bird species referred to in point 2 for which an improvement of their conservation status is necessary.
In accordance with Article 6 (3) of the Biodiversity Act, the protected area protects: meadow pipit, grey woodpecker, middle-spotted woodpecker and red-backed magpie
