The protected zone “Mikre” is divided into two zones, as it is declared both under the Birds Directive and the Habitats Directive, and falls within the territory of 4 municipalities - the one under the Birds Directive has a total area of 12 383,19 ha and was declared in 2008, and the one under the Habitats Directive has a total area of 15 447,51 ha and is declared in 2021. The Birds Directive protected area has two designation objectives and protects species under Article 6 (3) and (4) of the Biodiversity Act, and the Habitats Directive protected area has five designation objectives and protects a multitude of habitats, animal and plant species under Article 6 (1) and (2).
