Protected zone “Bulgarski izvor”

Protected zone “Bulgarski izvor” is declared under the Habitats Directive, has a total area of 2 618,5 ha and is declared in 2021. The protected area has four designation objectives:

• To conserve and maintain habitat types and habitats of species, their populations and distribution within the area, to achieve and maintain their favourable conservation status;
• Enhance the structure and function of 3 natural habitats;
• Enhance the habitats of the species: great crested newt, common bog turtle, hawksbill turtle, spiny softshell turtle, lesser spotted turtle and long-eared nightjar;
• Enhance the condition or restore habitat types and habitats of species and their populations as necessary.

In accordance with Article 6 (1) and (2) of the Biodiversity Act, the protected area protects numerous habitats, animal and plant species.
