The Church of "St. Athanasius" is the oldest known church in Lyaskovets, but it was burnt down by the Kardjalians towards the end of the 18th century. It was probably rebuilt afterwards, as there is evidence that by 1823 the church had two granaries rented out. A new church was built in 1835 by the Greek bishop of Turnov, Hilarion of Crete. In 1856 a school was built in the church yard. The first theatrical performances in Lyaskovets took place here, and after the demolition of the church by the earthquake in 1913, a temporary church was built, and on the foundations of the demolished one, in 1927, the present one was built, with money collected from the citizens.
