Historically, the Synagogue marked the location of the Jewish neighborhood in the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The Jewish community in Samokov finally left Samokov in the 1950s, when it emigrated to the newly established Jewish state of Israel. In the 1960s a restoration of this remarkable monument of culture in Samokov was started, which has not yet been completed, as there was a fire, then repeated restoration as well as raids by thieves, which is why the synagogue is currently in critical condition. In 1972, the synagogue was granted the status of "monument of culture" of the category "national importance". Today it has the status of a "national monument" on the territory of the municipality of Samokov. In 2022, the Municipality of Samokov submitted a project for the restoration of the Synagogue for approval by the Ministry of Culture and the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage.
