Traces of a settlement inhabited at the beginning of the Bronze Age have been found in the area of Varnitsite - Dolnata Elia , and in the nearby area of Kaleto, where, in addition to fragments of vessels, copper axes with ears or the so-called "Ugarchin type" axes have been found. The clay vessels unearthed around the dam at the Svetia River testify that there was a more substantial settlement here at the end of the Bronze Age. Around this same dam there are also finds from the Early and Later Iron Age left over from the settlement that stretched along the slopes of the whole valley. Numerous burial mounds testify that this region was inhabited by the Thracians, and single larger mounds at Gladnia Lari, Beli Kamak, on Khuben's Rath, on Drenova Mound, on Gaylarski Rath, and elsewhere, have shown that individual, more self-sufficient Thracians, had nearby possessions with dwellings and other buildings.
