Today's "Sarafska House", the only remaining of this amazing construction, is one of the smaller ones - with an area of 380 m2, and although it has a more intimate, residential character, it is the most prominent representative of the so-called urban symmetrical or "Plovdiv" house.
The story of the Sarafska House is rather romantic - Mr. Moshe Abraham Arie lived in Vienna with his three sons, who were very handsome, but one of them possessed extraordinary beauty. The handsome man was one day met in the streets of the imperial city by the Empress Josephine herself. Dazzled by his beauty, she ordered her bodyguards to take him to the palace. Twice a day he was visited by Josephine herself, but the Emperor objected to this care, and in 1744 the whole Arie family was expelled from the city and settled in the Ottoman city of Vidin, and later - in town of Samokov.
