In the courtyard of the church is the only memorial in the country to the victims of the Titanic, famous for its collision with an iceberg and its tragic sinking in 1912. It was carved from a large chunk of granite that broke off a cliff near the village. It reads the inscription "In memory of those who perished in the Atlantic Ocean with the steamship Titanic in 1912". Of the 38 Bulgarians who died on the Titanic, eight were from the village of Gumoshtnik.
