Next to the Museum of Crafts in the centre of Troyan is a beautiful house with a monument in front - this is the monument of Ivan Hadjiyski, considered the father of Bulgarian sociology and social psychology. Ivan Hadzhiyski was born in 1907 and as a schoolboy in Troyan he wrote articles for the magazine "Yunosha". Later he graduated from the Commercial High School in Svishtov, after which in 1929 he became a member of the Communist Party and was arrested. In 1934 he was conscripted into the army and during his service he completed the third volume of "Everyday life and spirituality" in manuscript, and in 1944 he died in the war during fighting in Serbia. The memorial in front of the house shows Ivan Hadjiyski and his bicycle, which he used to travel around the country to collect material for his most famous work, The Life and Spirituality of Our People.
