Metropolitan Church "Assumption of St. Mother of God"

The Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin, also called the Mитрополитска Church, was consecrated in 1793, and was built with the funds of patriotic Samokov residents. In 1805, reconstruction of the church began with the aim of transforming it from a single-nave to a three-nave, higher and more spacious. Today, along with the unique woodcarving, the church houses icons by the founder of the Samokov school, Hristo Dimitrov, Zahari Zograf, Ivan Nikolov Ikonopisets, Nikola Obrazopisov, Zahari Popradoykov, Kosta Gerov - Antikarov, Michail Belstoynev.
