"Bridges of Time" Festival

The first edition of the three-day cross-border Festival - "Bridges of Time", dedicated to antiquity and the Middle Ages, was held in October 2023 on both banks of the Danube River, in the cities of Nikopol and Turnu Magurele.

The festival is organized under a common structure, developing on the territory of the two municipalities: Nikopol and Turnu Magurele and covers two eras - the Roman and the Middle Ages. The members of the established clubs for Ancient and Medieval reenactments from Bulgaria and Romania take an active part in the festival, recreating key scenes from the two historical eras.

The climax of the festival is a day-long reenactment of the final battle of the Crusaders of Emperors Sigismund of Luxemburg and Mircea the Old with the Turkish armies of Bayezid. Other attractions are presented at the festival such as: a parade of Roman legionnaires, Roman and medieval cuisine, Roman guided, civilian and children's games, a crossing of forces over the Danube, a concert and a medieval cultural program and many others.
