The Nunnery "The Protection of the Mother of God"

The Nunnery is a living testament to the spirit and atmosphere of the Revival Samokov, the only authentic complex of buildings and gardens, silence and coziness preserved in the town. The vicissitudes of history seem to have passed it by during its 240-year existence, and today it continues to be an operating monastery.

The foundation of the monastery is connected in real terms with the name of Baba Fota, and in legendary terms - with the saving of the town by the Holy Mother of God. It is not known when the statute of the monastery was drawn up, but in 1872 it was entered in the canon of the Mitropolitska Church, and the Nunnery  is mentioned by the grandson of the founder Konstantin Fotinov in his "Geographical Description of 1843".

The complex of the Virgin Monastery is a cultural monument of national importance.
