"Bulgarian Plum Festival - Troyan" is an innovative cultural event of Troyan Municipality, carrying the tradition of a celebration with more than 20 years of history. Last year, the Bulgarian Plum Festival was officially awarded as one of the best festivals in Europe and is the winner of the prestigious quality mark "European Festival" for 2015-2016 given by the European Commission. The festival is a product of the local community's sincere desire to promote a tradition unique to the region and the country. It began at the National Exhibition of Folk Arts and Crafts in the village of Oreshak in 1993. Since 1997 the festival has been held in parallel in the town of Troyan and the National Exhibition, and since 2011, the event has developed to become today's Bulgarian Plum Festival. The festival is traditionally held in the last week of September, and the focus of the festival is on the cultivation of the plum crop, the production of Troyan plum brandy and other plum products.
